MNPS announces public receptions to meet director of schools

(December 8, 2008) - Following a weekend of interviews with three finalists for the director of schools position, the Metropolitan Nashville Board of Education has elected to invite all three candidates back for more in-depth interviews. All three candidates brought very different leadership styles and areas of experience and Board members said they needed more time with each candidate to determine if the skills he or she offered fit with the district's needs. The second interview for each will be an all-day experience to include school visits, meetings with staff, community, business and government leaders, discussions with the Board and a public reception. Participants will be asked to share their views and thoughts on each candidate with the Board. Those who would like to meet the candidates may do so at the receptions, to be held according to the following schedule: * Santiago Wood - Dec. 10, 4:30 p.m. - 6 p.m. at Martin Professional Development Center (PDC), 2400 Fairfax Avenue, Nashville, TN 37212 * Doris McEwen - Dec. 17, 4:30 p.m. - 6 p.m. at Martin PDC The Board will hold a special meeting Saturday, Dec. 20, to deliberate on the three candidates. That meeting will begin 9:30 a.m. in the central office boardroom, 2601 Bransford Avenue. * Jesse Register - Dec. 18, 4:30 p.m. - 6 p.m. at Martin PDC
