NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A teenage suspect has been taken into custody in connection with a deadly home invasion in South Nashville earlier in the week.
Officers with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department arrested 18-year-old Montavis Woodard early Friday morning.
The body of 34-year-old Ron Christopher Poullard was found in a South Nashville apartment late Monday night.
Poullard's girlfriend told Metro police that they made a quick trip to the grocery store around 11 p.m. When they entered the apartment, she said one or more burglary suspects were in the back of the apartment.
Poullard apparently exchanged fire with the suspects, and was struck in the abdomen. Police said he died at the scene.
Officials said the contents of the apartment had been torn apart. The home invaders had even searched through the ice bin in the freezer. Police said Woodard told them he burglarized Poullard's apartment to find illegal drugs.
Officials said their investigation has found that the murder victim was involved in illegal drug trade.
Woodard was charged with criminal homicide and booked into the Metro Criminal Justice Center. He was held on a $1 million bond.
