Second Harvest seeks volunteers to feed families in need

A new report found 14 percent of mid-state families are struggling to find enough food. Second Harvest Food Bank will be giving food to families for Thanksgiving and the rest of the holiday season, and Metro employees gathered food for Second Harvest to help in that need. The need is greater this year than in any previous year. "Our goal this year to meet the increased need of 38 percent is to raise seven million meals for hungry men, women and children during the holiday season," Tasha Kennard, with Second Harvest Food Bank, told News 2. "Last year we raised about five million meals but due to that increase, we need to raise two million meals more than we did last year. We need the community support with food drives, online donations and volunteers to help sort all the food that comes in." Second Harvest is also short on volunteers as people go on vacation for the holidays.
