Metro announces finalists for 2009 Teacher of the Year
Seven Metro School teachers have been named finalists in the annual Teacher of the Year awards program, which seeks to recognize teachers from each school who have been selected by their peers as among the best.
A panel of judges has reviewed materials submitted by each school-level teacher of the year and narrowed the field to seven finalists—two each representing elementary and high schools, and three representing middle schools. From that list, Metro Schools’ 2009 Teachers of the Year, one from each category, will be announced at a celebration April 14.
Finalists for Teacher of the Year in Metro Schools for 2009 are:
High School:
Wanda Anglin, Nashville School of the Arts and Cindy Leake, Hume-Fogg Magnet
Middle School:
Amy K. Cate, J. T. Moore Middle; Cindy Tarkington, Antioch Middle and Scott Hale,
West End Middle
Elementary School:
Melissa Brock, Kirkpatrick Elementary; Robby Yates, Lakeview Elementary; and
Pamela Pedigo, Old Center Elementary
The three MNPS teachers selected as Teacher of the Year will advance to statewide competition, and the winners at the state level will advance to compete nationally.
